SFS Point Scoring System
Overview
This section covers the SFS club races, such as Season point score, Spring, Summer and Autumn Series. The Club Championship and Galloping Ghost /Australian Championship use a different system - the standard regatta point score as per the RRS (Racing Rules of Sailing).
Points awarded
Points are awarded for each race as follows: 1st = 6 pts 2nd = 5 pts 3rd = 4 pts 4th = 3 pts All finishers from 5th place onward receive 2 points.
Other situations DNF, Did Not Finish = 1 pt RAF, Retired After Finishing = 1 pt DNC - Did Not Compete = 0 pt DNS, DId Not Start = 0 pt
RAF
Retired after Finishing is when a boat finishes the race but post-race decides to withdraw and not be scored for finishing the race.
Tied scores
If a point score at the end of a series is tied, then in order to break the tie, the following is applied to derive an outcome: 1. The boat with most 1st places, otherwise most 2nd places, otherwise most 3rd places, etc. 2. If the tie cannot be broken by 1. above, then boat with best place in last race.
