You used to sail skiffs. You still can.

This page is for the sailor who crewed 18s, 16s or 12s years ago, drifted away, and assumes getting back on the water means buying and campaigning a boat. It does not.

The club owns the fleet. Eleven historic 18-footers race every summer Saturday from Careening Cove, and every one of them needs experienced hands. You bring the skills; the club brings the boat, the gear and the wardrobe.

The boats are the traditional class: coloured sail insignia, jumpers, a handicap start, big crews and real teamwork. If you sailed the old boats, you will know them; if you sailed modern skiffs, the change of pace is the charm.

Experienced sailors can usually be placed on a boat within the week. Tell us what you sailed and when, and the club's new sailor contact will match you with a crew.

Get back on the water

The Sydney Flying Squadron Ltd collects your name, email address and sailing background to match you with a boat. Your details go to the club's new sailor contact, are used only to organise your sailing, and are not added to any mailing list. You can ask the club to correct or delete them at any time.

This route has its own owner at the club, separate from the beginners' programme, so an experienced sailor's enquiry is never queued behind a training intake.
