Race 8 of the 2020-21 season, sailed 28 November in heat over 40 degrees with a north west wind. Five skiffs took a handicap start in Athol Bay on the number 5 West course. The Mistake (John Winning) won by 40 seconds from Australia IV (Terry Stewart), then Scot and Top Weight, with Aberdare not finishing.
SEASON 2020-21 RACE 8 RESULTS
Current leaders for the Atlantis Trophy - Aberdare
Temperatures hit over 40C on Saturday for Race 8 of the SFS sailing season. The wind was from the north-west. Rig choices varied between no.3 configuration or no.2 mainsail with no.3 jib.
Five skiffs launched - Top Weight, Aberdare, Mistake, Australia IV and Scot. Britannia and Tangalooma stayed ashore due to a shortage of crew.
The race got underway from a handicap start in Athol Bay on the no.5 West course. Top Weight was first away off 14 mins, followed by Scot (13), then Aberdare (12), Australia IV (7) and The Mistake off 2 mins.
The lead changed several times on the final run with Mistake gaining the upper hand at the end crossing the line 40 secs ahead of Australia IV, with 30 secs to Scot and then 20 secs to Top Weight.

THE 12 FOOT SKIFFS
Racing was cancelled on Sunday due to extreme temperatures hitting over 40C and wind gusts over 45 knots. A good call from the race officers!
SAILING IS ON FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR
Just two more weekends of sailing before the year end. Next weekend brings a full weekend of racing with RACE 9 for the historics PLUS the N.S.W. 12 Foot Skiff State Championships 2020 on BOTH Saturday and Sunday from the SFS ClubHouse

To create a safe passage for people to share cultures and identities, for the 22nd Biennale of Sydney, titled NIRIN, the vessel — previously known as Radar — has undergone a complete restoration, transforming both internally and externally. Launched in 1947, the traditionally crafted wooden boat was the “mother” of the Rosman fleet and remained in continuous service for more than sixty years. For NIRIN, Melbourne arts and cultural collective BE. have transformed the skin of the vessel with a design that celebrates Pasifika women’s mark-making through a visual representation and interpretation of Pasifika tattoo motifs
