AUSTRALIA DAY REGATTA
The 188th Australia Day Regatta, the oldest continuously run annual sailing event in the world, was held on Australia Day, Friday 26 January 2024. The SFS has a long history of participating in the race, however this year, the SFS were unable to pull together any entries, which is unfortunate, as it would have been a good chance to show the rest of the fleet what the historics can do in a 30 knot southerly.
ATLANTIS TROPHY Most swims for the season
Awarded to Jerry Tickner and The Mistake team
BROKEN WING TROPHY
The purpose of this category is to discourage crews from using gear that is too small for the job. This season there were only a few DNF due to gear failure. The broken wing is only awarded when there are multiple failures.
The broken wing trophy was not awarded this year which reflects the outstanding performance of the fleet & crews.
TOP WEIGHT TROPHY
Dedicated to Grant Taylor, sailor, Sailing Secretary and SFS board member from 2000 to 2006. In 2000 Grant commissioned the replica “Top Weight”. Each year the trophy is awarded to SFS member or staff who has contributed to the advancement of the Club.
Awarded to Michael van Stom
MEGHAN STEWART MEMORIAL TROPHY
Established in 2002 by Top Weight owner, John Tierney and his partner Pat Stewart to honour the memory of Pat’s daughter Meghan. The trophy is awarded each season to a SFS member who has shown great enthusiasm, tenacity and a love for the SFS.
Awarded to Wendy Lee
