Reports Race 4 of the 2020-21 season, sailed in unsettled weather with a passing thunderstorm around 1pm that forced rig rethinks among the six skiffs.
The weather forecast was for unsettled conditions with rain showers. Six skiffs were on hand for the day’s racing, with a variation in rig selection. A passing thunderstorm around 1 pm accompanied by fresh gusty conditions was cause for some to re-think their rig options.
The Mistake carried full size no.2 rig, Britannia had a reef in the no.2 mainsail, Aberdare had a reef in a borrowed big mainsail off Top Weight, and Australia IV had a no.1 mainsail with no.2 jib.
Unfortunately, only 4 skiffs finished with Australia IV skippered by Terry Stewart having a swim off Bradley’s Head, and Scot retiring before the start due to rig issues.
The results were:
1. The Mistake - John Winning
2. Aberdare - Jerry Tickner
3. Britannia - Ian Smith
4. Tangalooma - John Lewis
DNF. Australia IV - Terry Stewart

THE 12 FOOT SKIFFS
Despite the wild weather on Sunday, the 12s were able to get one race in before abandoning the second race.
Four skiffs took on the conditions and the results were:
