SEASON 2020-21 RACE 16 RESULTS

WHO WILL BE QUEEN OF THE HARBOUR ON SATURDAY?

Four of the competitors in 1926: Miss C. McGlede, Miss G. Aikman, Miss M. Murray, Miss M. Mahony

On Saturday 4th December 1926, the Squaddie held the inaugural "Queen of Port Jackson" race. This was an initiative by Vic Utick, a member of the crew of Arline to “allow the girls to sail". There were 29 boat entries, but only 24 female competitors as, according to the press of the day “three boats are not carrying girls, as they do not believe in having women in an open boat which calls for much hard work". The event soon grew into a successful annual fundraising event.

HISTORIC 18's RACE RESULTS

Race 16 of the 2020-21 Season was the Port Jackson Championship!

Race 3 of the Club Championship and Race 5 of the Summer Point Score.

It was a cold and rainy day with seven skiffs on hand.

There were a number of changes of skipper - Peter Legrove made a welcome return to take the helm of Britannia with usual skipper Ian Smith wearing his forward hand's hat, Chris Buckland would take the helm of Yendys and Marshall Flanagan would steer Scot.

The race got underway from a scratch start in Athol Bight on the no.4 Sth course.

The adverse weather had an upside with a distinct lack of pleasure craft and boat-wash affecting the waterway. The skiffs got away from a well-contested start with Yendys best away from the favoured pin-end with Aberdare on their hip, The Mistake from middle of the line and Scot well positioned near the boat-end.

The Mistake were winners on the day, followed by Yendys, Australia IV, Scot and Tangalooma. Britannia retired with an injured crew member and Aberdare went for a swim.

Results for Sat 13th February 2021.

With thanks to the on-water support team of Barley, Stu, Suzy, Robert, Russell, Reece, Chuck and Glen; Nick commentating on the ferry and COVID Marshalls Tomoko and Nicki. Mark rounding details and on-water observations provided by Peter Notley.
