2019-20 Season Results & Trophy Presentations (Part 3 of 4) "Welcome to Part 3 of the SFS 2019-2020 Presentation Night COVID19 style. Tonight's presentation will cover the 2020 Australia Day Regatta and the Queen of the Harbour"

AUSTRALIA DAY REGATTA The 184th Australia Day Regatta was sailed on Sunday 26th January 2020. Originally known as the Anniversary Day Regatta, this event is the oldest continuously run sailing regatta in the world. The SFS is extremely proud of its role in maintaining this history. Three skiffs from our historic fleet participated in the event - Top Weight (skippered by our SFS Treasurer, Al "Robbo" Robertson), Aberdare (skippered by Jerry Tickner) and Australia IV (skippered by our SFS Vice Commodore, Terry Stewart). The winner of the Australia Day Regatta and recipient of the impressive Australia Day medal is .............................................. TOP WEIGHT!! (Next time you see Robbo, be sure to buy him a consolatory beer as due to the Coronavirus, he received the medal in the post, rather than at the illustrious ceremony normally held at the Sydney Town Hall)

QUEEN OF THE HARBOUR According to the AHSSA website, (http://www.ahssa.org.au/queen-ofthe-harbour/) in or around 1912 it was decided by the "menfolk" that they would allow the “girls” to sail one day a year. This small allowance became known as “Ladies Day”. It soon became the biggest event on the sailing calendar, so J.J. Giltinan, the then Commodore, and a shrewd businessman decided that was a good way to raise money. Reportedly, this remained a very successful fundraising event right through to the early 60s. In those halcyon days, the young ladies were given gold brooches and the “Queen” won a car! This year, the race was held on March 7th and the Queen of the Harbour was.... OMBELINE EVEN on THE MISTAKE. (Sorry Ombeline, no car this year)

"Queen Ombeline" is pictured below with the princesses from the rest of the fleet - Marion on Australia IV, Courtney on Britannia, Tamsin on Yendys, Miriam (covering for Theresa) on Scot, Kerrie on Myra Too, Suzie on Aberdare and Julie on Tangalooma. Special Thanks to Barley for organising the decorations and props for the day.

Special Thanks to Bob Chapman for his meticulous record keeping over the series and colourful race reports - which are all uploaded on the SFS website.

Stay tuned next week for the final installment of the SFS 2019-2020 Presentation Night - COVID-19 style same time, same place. Sail on!
